As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 474 people, 220 households, and 137 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,257.1 people per square mile (481.6/km²). There were 262 housing units at an average density of 694.8 per square mile (266.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.99% White, 2.53% African American, 0.21% Asian, 0.42% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.84% of the population.
There were 220 households out of which 20.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.5% were married couples living together, 5.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
